Frequently Asked Questions
FAQ’s
Do I need a referral?
No. You do not need a referral to see your psychologist. If you have a diagnosable mental health condition you may seek support from your GP and they may provide a mental health assessment and Mental Health Care Plan, though that is entirely at the GP’s discretion. We can see people privately with no referral, as in self-refer, and can call us anytime to book appointments.
How many sessions will I need?
Everyone is different, in what their goals for treatment and support are, and how complicated their mental health issues are. This is something you will discuss with your psychologist at the initial appointment. Typically, most clients attend between 6-10 appointments, sometimes less, and sometimes more for complex long term mental health disorders. We hope you attend appointments until you have achieved your goals, or at least are well on the way to doing so.
How often are sessions?
Again, this will only be known once we meet you and discuss your goals and reasons for wanting support. Typically, appointments are fortnightly, 3 weekly, or monthly. At times weekly appointments may be available for people needing higher levels of support. We do operate a cancellation list for people wanting more appointments, and we notify clients when there is something available.
